The 2018 Buick Regal Sportback starts at $24,995 and comes standard with a 250 hp, 2.0t engine. This currently makes it one of (if not) the most powerful new cars in the US under $25,000 MSRP. This and the Accord are currently my favorite options in the class .

But does it come with

It’s a handsome car. An Opel, built in Germany. Wonder how the import tariff will mess with this...
C&D:
LOWS
A few not-so-luxurious appointments, compromised rearward visibility, no longer feels like an Opel.

And apparently that base trim only comes in white, or you can pay extra for silver. So if you pick “luxury mid sized” for your rental you’ll probably be driving a white Buick liftback

Overall I’m impressed with Buick’s lineup. I don’t think it is going to be enough to save them though.

Counter reminder that any focus STs on the lot can be had for many thousands off the MSRP. A base model can be had for under 20k with 6-speed stick shift in a 250HP hatchback.

Let’s hope GM won’t pull another SS with the Regal now that Opel isn’t part of GM anymore.

Yeah, but it’s a...well...the kind of car I don’t want hanging out with my kids. No offense to sedans, I’m sure plenty of them are nice and everything. I’m just saying if I could live in a wagon-only gated community, I would.

Not sure I’ve seen one of these in the wild....or maybe if I didn’t see the front grill I thought it was one of these...

Focus ST has more power and a manual. Available new this year (but no longer produced). It can be purchased for an even lower MSRP and usually goes even lower for the lowest trim that hits this price point. ST2 trim cars are usually sold for under $25k.

If you want one of these and 252hp stock in a hatchback, you can get a base FoST for a lot less. You can get an ST2 in this price range...

I am currently a bit enamored with the Accord 2.0t, it looks like it would be a great all around car. Not in the market for a car though either way.

Wow such blatant deutschphobia

If you want a Buick with a stick maybe you can find one of the twenty three veranos with a stick or one of the 182 last gen regals that had a stick .*
*numbers are estimates

Smaller car though. If the Regal and the Accord are the same size category, that would put them above a FoST.*
Edit: Read that all wrong. I need lunch.

Holy mother of all that is right and good in this world - Focus ST with an MSRP of 26,500, down to 19,600. 25% off....

The regal is not a bad car by any means, but the FoST is the better buy for those who want some POWERRRRR but have a more modest bank account.

You know I thought you were talking about the Regal sportsback, but I come to the comments to find it's all Focus ST? Weird huh? Two cars with very different markets are being compare for literally no reason? It's almost like people who like Focus STs can't like other cars...

Well, I like their “TourX” wagon, but I’m a little anti-semantic about the name.

Very little customer overlap between these and those...plus not everyone wants a manual DD.

Wobbles said it was “ one of (if not) the most powerful new cars in the US under $25,000 MSRP”, and I was pointing out that it’s not true. Nothing about the type of customer or DD practicality came into any part of the discussion.

But the entire comment section has basically been this...

Because he said 250hp and cheap. It’s where 250hp and cheap cross with fun.

Te focus ST is up what 2hp? And we are going by msrp, it's not much to assume a GM car can go lower that sticker as well...

The Focuses also go for well below sticke, have a better power:weight ratio, and even slightly more torque.

And aren’t even any where close class wise, the regal is a fun automatic lift back Audi-accord competition, the focus is much smaller and much less comfortable, you cant compare them fairly to begin with

I want one. It’s a good looking car with the right amount of power.
I’ve seen a few, all driven by younger guys (sub-30s), so I think they’re hitting their target market pretty well.
